New direct bus routes for Knocknacarra, says Hanley

New direct radial bus routes are coming on stream for Knocknacarra, it was announced this week.

City businessman Val Hanley says the initiative has come about following a series of meetings he held with Bus Eireann.

The new routes will run from Knocknacarra church via Kingston and down by UHG and NUI Galway directly into the city centre.

Mr Hanley has been calling for high frequency direct bus routes for Knocknacarra for some time.

“I am delighted that Bus Eireann were finally in a position to make the necessary changes to bring the direct routes on line and that the new routes and the high frequency of buses would be of huge benefit to the residents of Knocknacarra.”

He outlined he spoke with Gerald Bartley of City Direct with a view to synchronising City Direct services with Bus Eireann services so that all Knocknacarra could benefit from frequent and reliable bus services.

“I have always been a strong advocate of public transport but believe that an integrated approach to the traffic congestion in Knocknacarra is what is needed, high frequency bus routes and the go-ahead of the Galway City Outer Bypass would be the ideal solution. The bypass would allow us to remove excess cars from the current traffic and therefore bus services would be assured of running on time and restore public confidence in public transport.”
