Volunteers needed for hospice fundraiser

Galway Hospice Foundation is seeking volunteers to help raise vital funds for the organisation next week.

People who can give a few hours of their time on Friday June 12 or Saturday 13 are needed to sell sunflowers - the hospice emblem - in the city and county.

The nationwide event raises funds for hospice services on a local level. The money raised here will go directly towards funding the Galway Hospice home care, day care and bereavement support services which depend totally on voluntary contributions. Last year the home care team made 4,642 ‘Hospice at Home’ visits and there were 1,263 attendances at the hospice day care unit.

All hospice services are provided free to patients and families for as long as required, explains Michael Craig, fundraising manager of the Galway Hospice.

“Fundraising events such as Sunflower Days are extremely important to the hospice to ensure the ongoing free availability of hospice services to patients and families coping with the impact of life-limiting illnesses. Please help us to continue helping others.

“We need as many volunteers as possible to sell sunflowers in Galway city and throughout the county on behalf of Galway Hospice. If you are interested in helping please contact the hospice fundraising department at (091 ) 770868 or e-mail [email protected]
