Favourite of the Edinburgh Fringe comes to Tuam

Danny O’Brien, the only Irish comedian to be picked as ‘Best of the Edinburgh Fringe Fest’ on three occasions, headlines the next Tuam After Dark comedy night on 30 July.

Katie Harrington, who organises and hosts Tuam After Dark, said: “Danny is an incredible comedian. He supported Bill Burr at the 3Arena in front of an audience of 7,000 to rave reviews. His style is high energy with plenty of wild anecdotes - you might want to leave Mam at home for this one.”

After a summer of sold out outdoor festival shows and live comedy finally returning to Ireland, O' Brien has already performed to a sold out Vicar Street this month, sharing the stage with Deirdre O' Kane and Ardal O' Hanlon.

This is the fifth Tuam After Dark event. Harrington, who moved home to Galway during the pandemic, was a finalist in Dublin’s Next Top Comic in the weeks before lockdown. On returning to Galway, she wanted to bring some of the laughter and fun of live comedy to Tuam and Tuam After Dark was born.

MS Harrington said: “I’m blown away by the support the night has gotten so far, the whole community has really gotten behind it and the feedback has been amazing. We love having the Mall Theatre as a venue. This is going to be the best one yet with a sterling lineup.”

She reserves opening spots at the events for up-and-coming comedians from the west of Ireland. Opening the show will be Headford’s Siobhan Brosnan, another festival favourite who has performed at the Vodafone Comedy Carnival and All Together Now.

Previous headliners at Tuam After Dark have included David McSavage, Deirdre O’Kane, and Neil Delamere. Tickets are available from Eventbrite and in Quinn’s newsagents on Bishop Street.
