Galway WFC return to WNL action against Cork City at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday (6pm ).
A hugely controversial penalty decision in extra-time ensured Bohemians eventually overcame Galway WFC at Dalymount Park following a hard fought FAI Cup clash.
“It was a very disappointing evening,” Murphy says. “The game was tight enough. I thought we were the better side being honest. We created a lot more chances, we just didn't put them away which we need to look at.
“We didn't give up many chances which was really good. There are a lot of positives in that and we have some stuff to work on this week.”
The fact that a penalty was awarded late on had a severe impact on the game. “We were disgusted really - you prepare for these games, whatever happens – happens,” Murphy adds.
“We cannot do anything about it. Standing in front of the girls after the game - I find it very hard to justify it, to reason with it. They are gut wrenched - they have put so much into this. Probably through no fault of their own they are now out of the cup and they find it hard to reason with it.”
Murphy is hopeful that Galway WFC can summon an instant response when Cork visit the west. “It is up to me to pick them up - to move on and to now put our full concentration into the league starting this weekend with Cork,” Murphy says. “It is not a nice feeling at the moment, it is difficult.
“The positive I take out of it is the level of performance was on the good side again. It was with a few players missing and a different team. We need to knuckle down again - to forget about the uncontrollables as I call them, we just cannot deal with that.”
It is a hectic spell with players returning to the club so Murphy remains optimistic. “We have a good group, we are just trying to keep them all together,” he says. “The summer is a busy period for young girls - going away on holidays - all of that type of thing. We have to manage that well - and we are. It is important now - this is a busy July for us.
“We will probably lose one or two after that, but we won't look too far ahead. At the moment we are just looking at this weekend – trying to get back to the league, trying to get back to winning ways, and doing what we have been doing all along, just learning and banking the good stuff each week.”
