Hanna’s House to hold security seminar

Hanna’s House, the feminist peace building organisation, is holding a seminar entitled ‘Women’s right to security in the home, locally and globally’ on June 12 in the Menlo Park Hotel.

The seminar is one in a series of four exploring a feminist analysis of peace building.

Among the keynote speakers is the well known feminist, journalist, and newly appointed director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, Susan McKay. McKay will be speaking about a recent field trip to Liberia where she met women who had experienced horrific atrocities during and after the armed conflict there.

Also on the panel is Ailbhe Smyth, co-founder of the Feminist Open forum and founding director of the Women’s Education, Research and Resource centre in UCD, who will outline women’s global and local security issues.

Hanna’s House, inspired by the suffragette and peace activist Hanna Sheehy Skeffington, is a feminist organisation working to provide a space for feminist activists, educators, and transformers to mobilise the collective energy of women to work towards the creation of a non-violent, just, society that embraces diversity.
