Pennsylvania Choir to raise funds for Enable Ireland

On Wednesday 13 July at 8pm, the Susquehanna Chorale from Hersey, Pennsylvania, will give a concert in aid of Enable Ireland. The performance will take place at St Nicholas Collegiate Church, Lombard Street, Galway City.

Entitled ‘A Celebration in Song,’ – the 35-voice choir will present an uplifting programme of music from both sides of the Atlantic. It will featurean eclectic mix of classical and contemporary music, including works by American and European composers, spirituals, folk songs, and choral classics, among others.

The Susquehanna Chorale celebrates forty years of “enriching lives through song,” its motto and mission, through its summer 2022 tour of Ireland. Located near Hershey, Pennsylvania (the home of world-famous Hershey Chocolate ), the 35-voice choir has won national recognition as one of the outstanding choral ensembles in the United States.

The members of this all-volunteer, auditioned choir come from many walks of life and different professions. As an ensemble, they are united through the love of choral singing and, especially, the exchange of energy between audience and performer through the magic of live performance. The Susquehanna Chorale is known for its “velvet blend,” beauty of tone, sensitive interpretation of songs from many genres and styles, and the obvious joy that members take in performing together.

The singers are enthusiastic about visiting and singing in Ireland because of the area’s musical history and traditions. They see choral music as a bridge to unite people from different countries, cultures, and experiences, despite geographical distance.

"We are delighted to be sharing our music with the people and visitors of Galway," commented Musical Director, Linda Tedford. ‘ It is a thrill for all of us to be performing in St Nicholas Collegiate Church and raise funds for Enable Ireland, a charity supporting local children, with our concert.," she continued.

The concert is given with free entrance and a retiring collection in support of Enable Ireland. A charity which supports 600 children aged 0-18 years, with physical and mental disabilities, and their families in County Galway.

The concert promises to be a wonderful event; all are welcome to attend.
