Glynn's improving minor team reach decider

It was a fantastic Saturday afternoon at Parnell Park for Alan Glynn's Galway minor footballers, who survived a late Derry revival to claim a 2-9 to 1-11 All Ireland semi-final win.

Galway will now contest the decider against Mayo in what promises to be an intriguing encounter.

At the Donnycarney venue Galway played some excellent football as Jack Longergan and Colm Costello netting vital goals.

Eanna Monaghan was also prominent for Galway who led by 2-9 to 1-5 with 10 minutes remaining.

Derry came storming back registering six points in a row, but Galway still prevailed.

Longergan's fourth minute goal signalled Galway's intent as they led 1-4 to 1-1 at the break, Derry's Eoin Higgins supplying a major.

After the restart, though, Costello struck a goal and Galway appeared to be in control. Derry came thundering back late on, but an improving Galway did enough to secure victory.
