A Salthill born master guitarist, lecturer, and writer who lives in the United States will launch his memoir, which details his lifelong battle with depression, anxiety, and alcoholism, today (Thursday ) at 6pm at Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop in Middle Street.
Seamus Kelleher, who made a name for himself in the early 1970s with bands such as Spoonful and Rock and Roll Circus, and did support gigs for Thin Lizzy, moved to New York in 1975 to study music and pursue his musical ambitions.
He has toured all over America playing in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center and headlines festivals throughout the States. He continues to do 200 performances a year.
During his recent visit to Galway, he performed at the Quay’s Bar with a full band including Andy McEntee, John Small, and Declan Folan. This was his first Irish performance in more than four years and featured songs from his recently released album “Shine the Light on me Tonight”.
His memoir “Shine the Light”, in which he talks openly about his mental health struggles, also chronicles his musical career. He has been sober for eight years and now give courses on mental wellness and suicide prevention at Texas A&M College of Medicine as well as motivational talks all over the US to help those coping with such issues.
