Tir na nÓG Clinic: offering medical and surgical solutions for hair loss

A family-run clinic owned by husband and wife team, Dr Kevin and Natasha McDonald, Tir na nÓg offers affordable yet extensive hair transplant surgeries, aiming to transform the confidence of patients.

The couple has studied at NUI Galway, and Natasha is a native of Co Mayo. Her husband, Dr Kevin McDonald, is a highly skilled surgeon, who has worked in some of the top public and private hospitals in both Ireland and the UK.

While the clinic offers an array of aesthetic treatments, it specialises in hair transplant surgeries. Hair loss can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as male pattern baldness, or as a result of stress or illness. Natasha tells me that the clinic is faced with an unprecedented amount of stress-related hair loss and scalp irritation concerns.

Many men struggle with the transition that is entailed by hair loss, significantly affecting their self-esteem and confidence. As hair restoration technology has advanced, so too have the numbers of Irish men undergoing procedures to achieve a look that they are more comfortable with.

“The treatments that we recommend for our patients are purely on a medical basis, while still being able to deliver them at an affordable price. We offer packages tailored to our clients’ needs, and work closely with them as a team to provide a holistic, long-term solution to your hair loss,” says Natasha.

The treatment plan includes the initial and pre-operative consultations with Dr McDonald, the procedure itself, a two-week post-operative (which includes PRP ), and three, six, and 12-month postoperative reviews.

These packages involve both medical and non-surgical treatments, costing between €2,000 and €4,000. Tir na nÓg also offers PRP (platelet-rich plasma ), a therapy that uses injections of a concentration of the patient’s own platelets to accelerate healing, after a couple of weeks of their transplant. Medication to prevent further hair loss is also offered, and it can help to regrow dormant hair.

“We are a close-knit team here in our clinic, and we like to be as open as we can,” Natasha tells me. The team at Tir n nÓg is transparent when it comes to discussing treatments with patients. Patients are never pressured into any kind of procedure. If surgery is offered (this will only happen if Dr McDonald and the patient have both decided this ), then a complete treatment package is provided, including unlimited communication with the clinic before and after surgery.

“What’s most important to the team at Tir na nÓg Clinic is that our patients get the best possible treatment for their hair loss. We regularly see them come back with hair, and more importantly, a newfound sense of confidence within themselves.”
