Boxing sisters

Olympic Boxing Club sisters are in action this week at the IBA Women’s World Championship in Istanbul, and off to a flying start.

Lisa O’Rourke, contesting the 70g, won her first bout by unanimous decision on day one. O'Rourke, contested out of the blue corner when she met Mbabi Brigitte of the Democratic Republic of Congo. With an assured and confident performance, O'Rourke, also a Roscommon footballer, dominated every round to take the bout. She next meets Dominican Republic’s Maria Hernandez Moronta in Friday’s evening session.

Sister Aoife O’Rourke was to open her account yesterday afternoon in the 75kg catetory against Naomi Melissa Graham of the USA.
