Green Party city councillor Niall Murphy is delighted that a new shower is to be installed at the Salthill Promenade. The changing shelter to the east of Ladies Beach, directly across from Curry’s amusements, will have a cold water shower.
“A cold shower might not sound that inviting, but it is a great facility for sea swimmers that dress for work after their morning dip, and for parents cleaning sand off playful children,” Cllr Murphy says.
“The more serious swimmers also use the shower to rinse their wetsuits which prevents damage to the suits over time from salt water.
“While a lot of the swimmers head for Blackrock, it is important to provide facilities and encourage more use of other parts of the Prom. This will help reduce congestion and parking issues at Blackrock,” he said, adding that there will be an environmental assessment before the work proceeds, as Galway Bay is a special area of conservation.
“But considering the Prom has showers in other locationsm I do not foresee any issues,” he added
