Galway cheerleaders compete in Orlando

Most people are surprised to hear that there is cheerleading in Ireland, even more surprised when they find out cheerleading was given Olympic recognition last year. But it’s no surprise that cheerleading has become such a popular sport among children, teenagers and young adults. Boys and girls flipping, throwing each other in the air and building pyramids sounds like a lot of fun!

Stuntworx Elite have just returned from a successful trip to Disney’s ESPN, Orlando with their team, Alliance, making it through to finals and placing 10th in the world. A big achievement in a country where most people don’t realise cheerleading exists! The club will be fielding a team once again at Worlds next April and invites interested athletes to contact them for information on how to get involved.

Stuntworx had the pleasure of also hosting the national squad, Team Ireland, this season and coaching them to place 9th in the World at the International Cheer Union World Championships. Two top ten finishes is a great accolade for Irish Cheerleading considering over 10000 cheerleaders competed across over 500 teams!

Stuntworx promotes cheerleading for all ages with their current roster hosting children from 4 years up to adults of 28! While athleticism is certainly a requirement of the sport, you don’t need to be great to get started, but you need to get started if you ever want to be great!
