Irish Citylink first to recognise Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Irish Citylink has today become the first Irish Coach Service to recognise the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower officially! Not all disabilities are visible – some are not immediately obvious. The Sunflower acts as an awareness tool – someone can choose to wear it to discreetly indicate that they have a non-visible disability and may need support, help, or simply a little more time while traveling.

Everyone has the right to travel and choose where they want to go! But traveling for some can present significant obstacles. Irish Citylink understands that by increasing the awareness of non-visible disabilities within the company and promoting the Sunflower, they can contribute to enhancing our passenger experience for Irish Citylink customers.

“We are delighted that Ireland’s largest Coach operator, Irish Citylink, has become the first coach operator in Ireland to join the Sunflower network.” said Paul White, CEO, Hidden Disabilities Sunflower. “It is a clear demonstration that they understand the importance of making travel accessible for everyone, including people with non-visible disabilities.”

Irish Citylink is honoured to be the first Irish Coach Service to support Hidden Disabilities and help its passengers travel with confidence and independence on the Sunflower-friendly coach services. Sunflower lanyards are available for free by contacting their offices in Galway or Dublin or by picking one up from their reception.

“I am delighted that Irish Citylink is the first Coach Operator in Ireland to launch the Sunflower,” said General Manager, Frances Cahill. “It’s imperative to ensure that we are always looking for new ways in which we can improve our services and support our passengers. At Citylink, our goals surrounding corporate responsibility include everyone having equal opportunities to travel independently knowing that they will be supported.”

The Sunflower recently launched in Ireland following its success in the UK. Established in 2016, organisations have adopted it globally to support their colleagues and customers. The Sunflower is recognised across a broad range of sectors – ranging from retail, financial services, and transport, including over 140 airports, travel, and tourism, universities, schools, and colleges. Other sectors include theme parks, supermarkets, leisure facilities, healthcare, financial services, emergency services, and theatres. With offices located in Ennis, County Clare, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is now growing across Ireland.

The Sunflower is available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the UK, the USA, and Ireland.
