A cookery demonstration and dining experience being held in the city next week will raise vital funds for a local organisation which reaches out to families and those in need.
The “Dine and Demo” evening, which will support Pernet CLG’s social connection activities, will be held at Galway City Community Training Centre at Unit 4, Liosbán Industrial Estate, on the Tuam Road at 7.30pm on Thursday May 12.
The event features a highly acclaimed local chef demonstrating how to cook a delicious five course dinner which those in attendance will enjoy afterwards. It is open to everyone and admission is €30.
The organiser of the evening Sr Imelda O’Sullivan says the idea for the “Demo and Dine” fundraiser came about as a result of Pernet Healthy Home Cookery Demonstration nights at the Galway Youth Centre at Corrach Bui.
“It was such a unique experience, especially our Valentine’s night dinner. We decided to see could we get a kitchen and dining room to host an evening where we would demonstrate and taste exciting cost effective recipes.”
Sr Imelda has been associated with the Galway City Community Training Centre since 1984. It was set up to help early school leavers.
“It offers training in culinary skills, garage, and mechanic training, horticulture, life skills, IT, and literacy support. The centre is unique and the young people get individual support and placement in hotels, restaurants, and garages after certification.”
She believed the centre would provide an excellent venue for the “Demo and Dine” experience so she approached the manager Blaze Aylmer.
“It was a coincidence that the training centre wanted to make links with those working in the community so Pernet was its first applicant. If this night is successful, we will continue to have sessions like this to help raise funds for Pernet’s activities.
