Another important game looms for Alan Murphy’s Galway WFC, who travel to the Showgrounds for a WNL clash against Sligo Rovers on Saturday (2pm ).
Goals from Becky Walsh and Julie-Ann Russell ensured Galway drew 2-2 against Wexford Youths at Eamonn Deacy Park following an impressive win away to Bohemians.
“We have had a good two weeks being honest,” Murphy says. “Last week's result against Bohemians was probably coming for a while - it was convincing. We were well worth the win and the performance was really good.
“Wexford are a decent side, they have been up there for every year, we were really disappointed in the end to draw the game. We learned a lot from it, as long as the girls continue to learn each week, and implement as much of that learning for the following game it will stand us in good stead.”
The stylish manner in which Galway contributed to a lively match encouraged Murphy. “We played a nice brand of football and had a good understanding of what we were trying to do,” Murphy says.
“We had a period of five minutes - I won't say we imploded - but we gave everything to Wexford of what they got on the night.
“They didn't get a lot, we handed them the initiative for about five minutes. We just need to rectify that, we were very unlucky not to win the game in the end, hitting the post in the last few minutes.”
Murphy is expecting an awkward assignment against Sligo, who have produced a number of defiant displays recently. “Sligo have really improved,” Murphy replies. “It is their first year in the league, week in, week out you can see how competitive they are. So that will not be an easy game at all.”
