100-job boost for Claregalway as Lidl announce plans for new store

More than 30 permanent jobs and 75 construction jobs are to be created in Claregalway with the proposed opening of a new store in the village, an information meeting will be told next week.

The €7million investment will see the construction of the chain's latest store on a greenfield site at Lakeview. In advance of this, Lidl Ireland will host a community open evening on Wednesday May 11 between 5pm-7pm at the Claregalway Hotel.

At the drop in event, the local community are invited to view Lidl’s plans for the brand-new, state-of-the-art Lidl store on the N83 in Claregalway.

Dervla Nash, Regional Property Director, and James Purcell, Regional Property Manager for Lidl Ireland along with members of the Lidl property and design team, will be on hand to answer questions and showcase the retailer’s proposed plans for a new store located on the site at Lakeview, Claregalway.

The new store will see a significant local investment of more than €7 million and will create over 30 permanent jobs with the retailer as well creating over 75 construction jobs throughout the development phase. The retailer hopes the proposed new store will be welcomed by the community.

The plans have been designed to contribute positively to the local area and will also incorporate a range of sustainability features including two EV charging spaces and solar panels on the roof. The new store will also offer the retailer’s growing customer base a superior shopping experience with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles.

Dervla Nash, Regional Property Director for Lidl Ireland said they are delighted to host this community open evening for local residents and stakeholders of Claregalway.

"We are eager to show the plans for the new Lidl store. A Lidl store doesn’t just bring better value shopping to an area – it means more fundraising for Ladies Gaelic Football clubs and schools in the area.

"The Claregalway LGFA team has recently won a set of new jerseys through the Lidl Plus LGFA reward card scheme and when the new store opens, we would hope to increase funding for the local team alongside youth mental health in Galway through Lidl Ireland’s charity partner Jigsaw.

"We look forward to meeting with the community and receiving feedback at the event.” Please note this is a drop in event where guests can chat directly with Lidl’s team.

"Plans for the new store will be on display through out the open event," she said.
