Galway’s Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW ) has announced the return of the much anticipated and hugely popular summer lunch which will take place on Thursday, May 19, in The Ardilaun Hotel. The club’s flagship business networking event will feature guest speaker June Curtin from sea swimming community Snámhaí Sásta.
After losing her husband to suicide when her children were aged just five and nine, Ms Curtin suffered badly from stress and anxiety, and took up sea swimming as an effective form of self care. “I took to the sea one morning in June 2019 and I’ve never looked back,” she said. “I am a daily sea swimmer and mental health advocate, I like to promote the benefits of sea swimming and the importance of minding your mental health.”
June Curtin has gathered a huge online following of swimmers and supporters, some who join her for daily dips in Clare, while others travel to meet her when she takes to the road on her swimming and advocacy adventures. Many people join the swims to enjoy the benefits of the open water, others taking comfort from the friendly smile from June and the sense of community and belonging that she has cultivated through her swimming and sharing her own personal journey.
“I am delighted the summer lunch is back in the diary this year, we have missed it and the opportunity to meet with and enjoy the company of many women throughout Galway who come together each year to mix, mingle, and connect while supporting a local charity,” said BPW Galway president Annette Walsh. “I am thrilled to welcome June Curtin as our guest speaker to our event, her courage and bravery in the face of adversity are to be admired and I’m looking forward to her sharing her inspiring story with us on May 19.”
The business lunch will commence with a drinks reception at 11.45am, followed by a four course sumptuous lunch with wine. MC on the day is BPW Galway club member Gerardine Lally. A charity raffle in support of Pieta promises a huge array of prizes. Entertainment will be provided by 4 Men and a Bass who are sure to get the afternoon fun into full swing.
