The Yaris Cross self-charging hybrid electric has been named 2022 World Urban Car.
The Toyota car was was voted top by the 102-member strong World Car Awards jury of international automotive journalists from 33 countries.
Launched in 2021, Toyota describes the Yaris Cross hybrid as bringing together Toyota’s rich experience and know-how in hybrid electrification and SUV design and engineering - developed for Europe and specifically with European customers in mind.
It adds the Yaris Cross carries the key qualities of the urban hatchback such as the “big-small” packaging that maximises interior space and practicality. It also features fourth generation hybrid electric power, and second generation Toyota Safety Sense.
Toyota claims the Yaris Cross can operate in electric mode for up to 80 per cent of the time in typical city driving conditions, meaning no CO2 or NOx emissions.
With its authentic SUV features, pricing starts from €28,050.
Toyota says the Yaris Cross blends the robust qualities of an SUV with more advanced dynamic driving appeal, thanks to the GA-B small car platform which gives it the basic strengths that have been so successfully delivered in the Yaris.
