In a highly competitive WNL lessons continue to be learned by an evolving Galway WFC outfit, who travel to Dalymount Park on Saturday for a clash against Bohemians (6pm ).
Despite a plucky performance at Eamonn Deacy Park at the weekend, Galway WFC still suffered a 2-0 defeat against champions Shelbourne.
Noelle Murray converted a first half penalty, while former Galway captain Shauna Fox added a delightful second after the restart.
Shels had the guile to close out the deal following Fox's sweet intervention. "This is what seems to be happening, it is a set piece or a goal that comes from a bit off pressure, and the opposition seem to manage the game on us, manage it out, kill the game," Galway WFC manager Alan Murphy says.
"That is what happened again, they are good at it, that is the experience they have. We are disappointed, but I would argue that I think we played well enough.
"I think we put a lot of pressure on, our set pieces looked good, we were well organised. We need to work on a few things, but we are not far off."
On home turf Galway have been beaten by Peamount United and Shels, but Murphy believes progress is being made.
"I think we are in terms of what I have seen from previous years - we don't give up soft chances anymore, the opposition aren't getting these one on ones that I have seen previously," Murphy says.
"I think we are learning, but it will take time. We have a new group, a lot of young girls coming up, only starting their careers really.
"We have that mix of experience too, but it is going to take a while to get a settled team. The big teams in this league have settled teams, that is the key. We don't really - yet."
