Adult volunteers are needed for a mentoring initiative for young people aged 10 to 18 years who are living in direct provision in Salthill.
The Big Brother Big Sister programme, which is run by Foróige, the youth development organisation, is seeking people to take part in fun-based activities with young people.
These activities will focus on social inclusion, participation, and personal development. Volunteers are asked to give one to two hours weekly with a commitment of 12 months.
“Volunteers will be required to develop a positive relationship with a young person; to become a support, guide, and friend,” says a spokesperson for the organisation.
“Some examples of activities volunteers and young people do together include going for walks, playing pool, going for a hot chocolate, art, and so much more.”
This opportunity may be of particular interest to adults who have an interest in youth and community development, teaching, or who would like to gain experience working with young people in a social care setting.
There are 10 volunteer places available. All volunteers are carefully screened and receive training and support throughout their friendship.
