A failure to convert opportunities cost Galway WFC at Lissywollen on Saturday as Athlone Town eventually earned the spoils.
Alan Murphy's outfit had plenty of possession and chances before the break, but Athlone delivered a gritty perfomance to secure victory.
"It was very disappointing after our first half performance," Murphy says. "The girls came in at half-time very calm, it was very much continue to do what we were doing, dominate the game, the chances were coming, we just hadn't put them away.
"We hadn't given any chances away, it looked good, but then unfortunately one or two errors let us down."
On Friday it was confirmed that Republic of Ireland international Savannah McCarthy suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury which means she will be unavailable for a considerable spell.
"It is very disappointing for Savannah, the club, and ourselves," Murphy says. "She is a big leader for us and a big presence, both on and off the pitch in terms of her professionalism."
Galway WFC are not expected to feature in a competitive fixture again until an Easter weekend clash against Shelbourne.
"We will do some good work in that period of time," Murphy says about the next three weeks. "We will address some of the things that have happened so far, but momentum is key.
"Momentum within the league getting points and even momentum within a game, that is exactly what went against us at the weekend. We had all the momentum in the first half, but didn't score."
