Kyne welcomes almost 4.5m funding for Housing Adaptation Grants

Senator Seán Kyne has welcomed the allocation of €4,475,711 to support housing adaptations for older people and people with a disability in Galway.

The grants are 80% funded from the Exchequer by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government with the remaining 20% being funded by our Local Authorities.

“This important scheme has seen substantial funding nationwide again this year and Galway is no exception.

“The allocations of €3,306,875 for Galway County and €1,168,836 for Galway City is a major boost to people requiring improvements to their homes,” he said.

“The funding for this scheme reflects the importance of this initiative as well as the Government’s commitment to older people and people with a disability.

“Since it began in 2007, the scheme has had a huge and positive impact on the lives of its beneficiaries. The grants give a big boost to people with a disability as well as people who are less mobile due to age but who wish to continue to live in their own homes independently.

This funding will enable older people and people with a disability to keep living independently in their own homes as well as facilitating early returns from hospital,” concluded Senator Kyne.
