Qualify as a secretary in GCC

Galway Community College's legal secretary, medical secretary, and office administrator course is an extremely popular course due to its continued success rate with 90 per cent of graduates obtaining full time and part-time employment in a legal practice, medical practice, hospital administration, public service, and as office administrators in multinational companies within six months of graduating. The remainder of the students progress to higher education courses in ATU and NUIG, and to apprenticeship programmes.

This is a full-time course qualifying with an office administration award at QQI Level 5. Students obtain the following skillsets: proficient in the usage of software packages such as MS Office Suite, Olympus Audio Transcription, 50 wpm typing speed, and ability to produce legal, medical, and general documents in a range of commonly used business layouts and styles. This academic year students will receive training and certification on iMed Doc software, which is widely used in consultants’ offices in the private and public hospitals.

Students have the opportunity to carry out work placement in private and public hospitals, primary care centres, public service offices, legal and medical practices, and multinational companies according to student suitability and preference, which benefits the students when applying for jobs. GCC is grateful for the help, support, and invaluable work placement provided by these organisations in the community over the past 20 years. Great credit goes to past students of the course who regularly contact the college with work placement opportunities and providing potential full time and part-time employment within the organisations where they are well established.
