Next cycle mechanics course to start in April

An Mheitheal Rothar has announced the next intake of its local training initiative in cycle mechanics will be in April 2022.

This six-month course, supported by Galway Roscommon Education & Training Board, operates out of the custom fitted bicycle mechanics training centre in Liosbán.

“The course provides fun, hands-on, training in how all of the parts of a bike work together and how to identify and repair most common problems,” explains course coordinator Patrick Connelly, a bicycle mechanic with more than 15 years’ experience in the industry.

“It’s the perfect course for someone interested in hands-on learning. The majority of the course would be practice based, however there are written and work placement elements also. Learners will also be supported to carry out two work placements where they will be able to practice and improve their bike repair skills in bicycle shops or workshops.

“This course is primarily for those aged 18 to 35 who are currently unemployed; however, all ages can apply. Learners may also receive a weekly training allowance depending on their circumstances. On completion, learners will receive a City & Guilds in cycle mechanics along with other relevant certificates such as manual handling and first aid.

“Cycling is becoming more popular - people are both more health conscious and budget conscious these days. There’s never been a better time to see if your future could be in the bicycle industry.”
