Painting with nature – a seasonal palette with Neptune

Reflecting nature’s positivity and tranquillity within our homes has never been more appealing.

‘Choose only one master – nature,’ said Rembrandt, and one has to agree with the formidable Dutch artist.

Nature has a helpful way of inspiring us to move through the seasons with grace and, excitingly, nature is not neutral.

It is a spectrum of wondrous hues that can teach us more about how to use and combine colour in our homes than any colour wheel ever will.

From stone greys quarried straight from the earth to the vibrant hues of fruits and spices, leading interior design house Neptune has curated a paint collection which draws heavily on the canvas of the natural world.

“Reflecting the seasonal colours is a great way to start a colour palette for your home,” Emma Sims-Hilditch, interior designer and Neptune’s creative founder, stated.

From the soft greens of early spring to the dazzling blues and pinks of a summer garden, through the mellow yellows and reds of autumn and the stark contrasts of winter, the seasons offer us a ready-made colour mood-board for our homes.

This spring, Neptune introduced Quince, a lively yellow-green inspired by young quince fruits, and there is no better colour to explore how nature can enliven your home in the very best light while reflecting your personal design sensibilities.

For those who embrace all things verdant and bright, Quince sits in harmony with other bold yellow and green tones such as Saffron and Olive.

Together, these three colours create a joyful sunshine palette, improved only by the balancing presence of Ink, either on woodwork or walls.

And for a scheme so rich with yellow tones, introducing a touch of red will add further character and contrast, while a soft pink such as Old Rose will mellow the feeling of a space considerably.

If you typically lean towards neutral shades to decorate your spaces, you’ll likely be looking to balance Quince’s chartreuse characteristics with something quieter, like Shell.

By doing so, you can use Quince as boldly as you wish, softening the overall look with this neutral partner.

To keep this pairing feeling contemporary, try coupling the palette with Neptune’s new Warm Black paint, natural oak and black-bronze hardware.

Teasing out flashes of colour can be a way to integrate seasonal changes seamlessly into an interior, so smaller accents of Quince, such as Odette cushions and Highgate painted lamps, can be combined with Snow for a fresh and defined contrast, or indeed the green notes in an Aqua Blue for a Nordic inspired palette.

Finally, mindfully including fresh flowers from a garden walk and other elements of nature can tie together a space as it moves through the seasons, no matter what your chosen style.
