Cllr John Connolly is hopeful a feasibility study will show that a pedestrian crossing is needed at the Rahoon end of Millars Lane.
Following Monday's meeting of the Galway City Council, Cllr John Connolly said he hoped that the study would highlight the need for a pedestrian crossing in the area.

"Tenders have been received for the construction project at Millars Lane, that project will enhance the use for pedestrians and cyclists," Cllr Connolly told the Galway Advertiser. "At the outset of the project I had asked that it would include a pedestrian crossing at the Rahoon end.
"That would essentially link the lane with the residential area of Rosan Glas, but also with the cemetery and the residential area around Rockfield. Unfortunately at the outset I was advised that the budget didn't extend to the inclusion of a pedestrian crossing at that end of the lane, but I did pursue it.
"I did ask that we would look at it again, the council has now agreed and are undertaking a feasibility study for a pedestrian crossing at the Rahoon end of Millars Lane. I would hope that the feasibility study would show that a pedestrian crossing there is feasible and that it would be a good idea."
Cllr Connolly [pictured below] believes a pedestrian crossing would benefit people in the community.

"It would open up the area for people coming from the Rahoon side of Millars Lane," he added. "It would provide full segregated pedestrian access along that route. I think it would be a real positive for the community. I am really hoping that the feasibility study will show that the project is needed."
Funding could also be provided by the NTA, according to Cllr Connolly. "I understand the NTA are very happy to fund such projects which prioritise pedestrian facilities, provide enhanced pedestrian access to community facilities," he said. "I think this project ticks those boxes so I would be hopeful that should the council proceed to do that the NTA will provide the funding.
"I would hope that it wouldn't take all that long either, that it would be done almost to complement the current project that is about to start at Millars Lane. The current project is expected to be concluded in quarter three of 2022."
