Fancy a little break from the hustle and bustle of this bank holiday weekend, well the monthly Clarinbridge Farmers and Crafts Market which is being held this Sunday May 31 might be the perfect place.
With over 40 stalls packed with fruits, vegetables, delicious food and dessert ideas, the market, which open from 12noon to 9pm at the Garden Centre, can offer visitors an opportunity to take time out and come to Clarinbridge for a few hours.
Why not consider making up a picnic lunch from the array of fresh produce available? There are plenty of fruits and salads, cheeses, fresh breads, and cooked meats. You can try the tasty casseroles and Irish stews, and round it all off with delicious ice-creams, mouth-watering cakes, and a gourmet coffee, or a lightly-filled crepe or two. All you need to do is bring is an empty basket, a rug and a few utensils to enjoy a day at the market.
For those who want to stock up for the week ahead Stefan, the fishmonger, will bring along his smoked products and Justin Flannery will have his excellent quality fresh meats. Maybe you’ll consider a bucket of fresh oysters and mussels form the Clarinbridge Co-op.
This weekend there will be an informal chess challenge throughout the afternoon for teens and younger age groups. All you have to do is sign up when you get there and play on the spot. There will be a giant chess board on display and also some prizes for overall group winners.
Just strolling around Clarinbridge can offer many small pleasures and you’ll have a smile on your face by the time you go back to the city centre to continue with the excellent Volvo Ocean Race celebrations later in the evening.
