United win Eamonn Deacy Park battle

It was an eventful encounter at Eamonn Deacy Park

Galway United 2 Treaty United 1

On an edgy night at Eamonn Deacy Park Galway United's defiance earned the full complement of spoils.

Leading at the interval courtesy of first half goals from Wilson Waweru and Stephen Walsh, United had to deal with a spirited Treaty United rally.

Inevitably Enda Curran struck an opportunistic effort for Treaty to trim the deficit, but John Caulfield's outfit survived to eke out a victory.

With 10 points collected from a possible 12, it has been a hugely encouraging start to the campaign for United.

Waweru pounced to score in the sixth minute for United, who settled impressively.

On the stroke of half-time Walsh added a second to clip a third goal in as many games.

Treaty, though, came thundering back with Curran poking home in the 69th minute.

Suddenly character had to be demonstrated. Both teams had chances late on with Walsh going close for United and Treaty substitutes Dean George and Kieran Hanlon nearly equalising. United prevailed and head for Lissywollen for Friday's clash with Athlone Town heartened.
