Rukmini Kelkar exhibition

An Indian artist, based in Dublin, displays her latest works in Galway

THE ART of Rukmini Kelkar draws on both her Indian heritage and her time here in Ireland, as Galway will see at her latest exhibition in Renzo Café, Eyre Street.

From India, and now based in Dublin, art was a form of therapy for Rukmini after she gave up being a dentist. As a result, using art to elevate people’s spirits is something she strives for in her pieces.

The artist focuses on representing strong female characters; the use of colour in a bold manner; and to give voice to social causes close to the artist’s heart.

“In this exhibition I have tried to curate the pieces to reflect what the last five years have been like for me,” she said. “From discovering this beautiful country and being in awe of the natural beauty and the openness of the people, to missing home and my parents too, then going through a pandemic.”

The exhibition runs until April 3.
