IARLA Ó LIONÁIRD, Steve Cooney, Máirtín O’Connor, and Matt Molloy - titans of Irish traditional music - will give concerts at Stiúideo Cuan, County Galway’s new flagship creative centre.
Stiúideo Cuan in An Spidéal is a live music venue, recording studio, and creative centre for the traditional and contemporary arts. To mark its opening, it will host its Spring Concert Series 2022, starting this weekend and running until May.
The line-up for the concerts are: Laoise Kelly (harp ), Tiarnán Ó Duinchinn (pipes ), and Stephanie Makem (vocals ) on Friday March 18 and Saturday 19; Michelle Mulcahy (harp ), Mick Mulcahy (accordion ), and Louise Mulcahy (pipes ) on Thursday March 31 and Friday April 1.
Flautist Matt Molloy (The Chieftains, The Bothy Band ) will be joined by John Carty (fiddle, banjo ) on Thursday April 14 and Friday 15; Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (fiddle ), Manus Lunny (guitar/bouzouki ), and Nia Byrne (fiddle ), will play on Friday April 29 and Saturday 30.
Singer Iarla Ó Lionáird, guitarist Steve Cooney, and accordionist Dermot Byrne will play on Friday May 13 and Saturday 14; with the series closing on Friday May 27 and Saturday 28 with Máirtín O’Connor (accordion ), Cathal Hayden (fiddle ), and Seamie O’Dowd (guitar ).

“Stiúideo Cuan is a huge addition to the cultural fabric of An Spidéal and south Connemara, being the only professional music venue between Galway city and Clifden,” says the venue’s creative director, Darach Mac Con Iomaire. “Starved of live music experiences for over 18 months, this concert series provides a wonderful opportunity for local and national audiences to feed heart and soul with the best of traditional music.”
