INNI-K, “one of the most acclaimed voices in the extraordinary revival of traditional and folk music we have witnessed in recent years,” according to RTÉ’s Arena, plays Galway this Thursday, March 10.
Inni-K will play The Mechanic's Institute, Middle Street, on Thursday March 10 at 8pm. At the show she will perform songs from her latest album, Iníon, which was released in February via Green Willow Records.
The album has been showered with praise. Folk Radio UK called it “an album of tremendous understatement, power and beauty”; while The Irish Times described it as “a very special record”, declaring it “emblematic of a fidelity to the form but, equally, a fidelity to musical exploration and collaboration…a kind of elegant modernity”.
Inni-K (aka Eithne Ní Chatháin ) is a contemporary sean-nós singer, whose music straddles folk, trad, and indie. Deeply rooted in the Irish tradition, she is always seeking fresh perspectives into an old tradition, pressing out against its very edges.
“I try to be a caring, attentive daughter of our rich song and music traditions,” she said, “and I also hope to be an innovative, curious, and adventurous one!”
