Free screening of Sonya Kelly’s Once Upon a Bridge

Play will be on Druid’s YouTube channel from Wednesday March 16 to Friday 18

DRUID THEATRE Company will give a free ‘encore screening’ of Sonya Kelly’s acclaimed Once Upon a Bridge from Wednesday March 16 to Friday 18.

Starring Aaron Monaghan, Siobhán Cullen, and Adetomiwa Edun, the play will be available free to view online as part of SEODA, Culture Ireland’s global online arts festival.

Inspired by the infamous incident in August 2017, when a jogger pushed a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in London, only for the driver to swerve in time and avoid running her over. Despite an exhaustive search by police the man was never identified.

The play imagines what was going on in the lives and the minds of the three people involved that day. The Guardian called it “compelling…delicately uplifting”. The Irish Times called it “an insightful exploration of unchecked aggression and its regretful aftermath”.

Alongside the public screening of the play, Druid has developed a series of educational resources for secondary school students as part of their award-winning Community and Education programme. These resources, including a teachers’ pack, and video interviews with playwright Sonya Kelly, will help students to explore the art of playwriting and examine the social issues raised in the work.

The encore screening of Once Upon a Bridge will premiere on Culture Ireland’s YouTube channel on Wednesday March 16 at 7.30pm. The play will be free to view online for 36 hours. See www.druid.ie for more information and a link to the screening.
