Nominations for the annual Mayor’s Awards for 2021, recognising outstanding contributions made by individuals, community, and voluntary groups across Galway city, are now open.
The Mayor of Galway, Independent Galway City Central councillor, Colette Connolly, is calling on the public to make nominations for the awards in the following categories:
Arts, Culture, Heritage, and Cúrsaí Gaeilge Award; Residents and Local Areas Award; Community Service and Social Inclusion Award (individual award and group award ); Older Person Volunteer of the Year Award; Sports Volunteer of the Year Award; Children and Youth Support Award; Young Volunteer of the Year; Environmental Sustainability Award; and The Galway City Council Volunteer of the Year Award.

“The Mayor’s Awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge people who commit time and effort to make their community a better place,” said Mayor Connolly [pictured above]. “We all know people who, despite their incredibly busy lives, still find time to support neighbours, local groups and communities in a very significant way. If there is an individual or group that deserves to be recognised for their efforts, please nominate them.”
To nominate an individual or group in any category, you complete the online nomination form at www.galwaycity.ie/MayorsAwardsNomination Nomination forms are also available from City Hall and city libraries. The closing date for online nominations is Friday April 1 2022 at 4pm.
Each of the award winners will receive a specially commissioned trophy and a payment of €500. All nominees will be presented with an individually designed Mayoral Certificate at the awards ceremony on Tuesday May 24 in the Galmont Hotel.
