New 1,100 litre bins installed at Ballyloughane

Cllr Terry O'Flaherty welcomes installation of new bins but says a third bin is needed

Two new litter bins, with a capacity of 1,100 litres each, have been installed at Ballyloughane Beach by the Galway City Council with a focus on recycling.

The new bins have larger openings at the side to cater for the disposal of pizza boxes as well as general litter. Their installation has been welcomed by the Independent Galway City East councillor, Terry O’Flaherty.

“The openings on the bins that were there previously there were quite small and did not allow for pizza boxes, resulting in them being left strewn around, or else left sticking out of the open area, which gave the impression that the bin was full to capacity, and this was not always the case,” she said.

Cllr O’Flaherty has requested the city council install a third bin at the beach. She has also called on members of the public to refrain from littering “a beautiful facility that people living on the east side of the city are immensely proud of”.
