Cllr Niall Mc Nelis has asked for confirmation when people can apply to buy monthly tickets for long term car parks in the city.
At Monday’s meeting of the Galway City Council the issue was raised by Cllr Mc Nelis.
Recently the day rate for parking has increased significantly from €5 to €6.50.
“With the increase to €6.50 can we confirm when workers can apply for a monthly pass?” Cllr Mc Nelis asked.
Cllr Alan Cheevers also asked whether a different price scale could be applied.
Uinsinn Finn, senior engineer with the Galway City Council, responded to the councillors’ queries. “The parking increase was agreed as part of the budgetary process,” he said.
“We are probably still at 50 per cent of the cost at private car parks.”
He added that the Galway City Council would look into rolling out the monthly ticket option as soon as possible.
