A virtual open evening on postgraduate programmes available in all GMIT campuses will take place today, February 17, from 6pm to 8pm. Hosted by the institute’s Graduate Studies and Professional Development Department, the event will be streamed live on openday.gmit.ie

GMIT offers more than 40 postgraduate programmes in areas such as business, science and computing, health science, wellbeing and society, engineering, and creative arts, including upskilling courses available through the HEA funded Springboard+ programme, ICT Skills, and Human Capital Initiative Government funded initiatives.

Staff, researchers, and postgraduate students will be available to answer questions at the live event which will be formally opened by the president of GMIT, Dr Orla Flynn, and addressed by heads of discipline areas (schools ). Each school’s offerings will be outlined and staff will be available to provide details on the programmes, how to apply, and much more.

Margaret Mulchrone, coordinator, GMIT Graduate Studies and Professional Development Department, said: “We are really looking forward to connecting with people interested in pursuing a postgraduate programme, going in a new direction, or deepening their knowledge in their existing career journey. We have an exciting line up with over 20 members of our academic team presenting on their postgraduate courses on the night. By using a virtual platform we are able to reach out to a wider national and international audience and many of our current students are from EU countries and overseas. To attend this event you will need to register on https://openday.gmit.ie. For further queries, please email [email protected].

“Due to industry demand we expanded our range of postgraduate offerings in recent years such as in the discipline of sports science through a dedicated Department of Sports, Exercise and Nutrition.”

Johnny O'Connor, senior strength and conditioning coach, Connacht Rugby, who is studying on the GMIT Master of Science in strength and conditioning, said: “Working with a professional club like Connacht Rugby, I think it’s essential to support your day to day strength and conditioning practice with an applied academic foundation. I really enjoy the flexibility that blended learning gives me and I can see how the GMIT Masters is influencing my performance as an S&C coach in an elite environment."
