Galway Film Society to screen Petite Maman

A film about love and loss from the director of Portrait Of A Lady On Fire

EIGHT-YEAR-old Nelly is exploring the woods outside her grandmother’s house when she meets a girl her own age, with whom she seems to have a remarkable amount in common.

This is French film, Petite Maman (2021 ), which will be screened by the Galway Film Society in the Town Hall Theatre this Sunday, February 20, at 8pm.

Directed by Céline Sciamma (Portrait of A Lady on Fire ), and starring Joséphine and Gabrielle Sanz as the two girls, this is a film about the power of memory and imagination, loss and acceptance, realised entirely from a child’s perspective.

The film won the Audience Award at the 2021 San Sebastián International Film Festival. The Guardian called it “simple, elegant and very moving”. The Irish Times called it a “delightful magic-realist fable”.

Tickets are available from the Town Hall (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie ).
