Take a stroll through Joyce’s Ulysses

Galway made radio drama, marking centenary of Joyce’s novel, to be broadcast on Newstalk

A GALWAY made, two-part radio drama adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses will be aired on Newstalk on February 6 and 13 at 7am.

‘Strolling Through Ulysses’ was made to mark the 100th anniversary of Joyce’s masterpiece, one of the greatest and most daring works of fiction of the 20th century.

Using a combination of narration, readings and scripted drama, ‘Strolling Through Ulysses’ guides listeners through the book’s events and characters, in a humorous, entertaining, and informative manner, with extracts from the novel which best illustrate the various aspects of Joyce’s writing.

'Bawdy and irreverent'

The drama is bawdy, irreverent and great fun, treating Joyce’s extraordinary and celebrated novel with great respect, while introducing this most difficult of novels to a new audience.

‘Strolling Through Ulysses’ was recorded in the Flirt FM Studios in NUI Galway, with a Galway based director, producer and actors. It was written and narrated by Robert Gogan, directed by Eimear Finan, and produced, recorded, and edited by Alan Meaney. Music is by Danny Weir. Voices are by Eimear Finan, Paul Fred McCloskey, Tracy Bruen, Zita Monahan-McGowan, John Rogers, Bob Kelly, Francis Finan, Orla McGovern and Conor Geoghegan.

Broadcast times for episode one are Sunday February 6 at 7am (repeated Saturday February 12 at 9pm ), and episode two are Sunday 13 at 7am (repeated 19 at 9pm ). It can also be listened to via www.newstalk.com and as a podcast after the broadcast.
