These Moments - Cian Finn to release new EP

Expect ‘a soulful cinematic feel’ from the songs on Finn’s latest release

CIAN FINN, the Galway musician whose works straddles reggae, world, folk, and traditional, releases a new EP, These Moments, on Thursday February 3.

The five-track EP is a precursor to a new album coming out this spring. Many will associate Cian with Jamaican influenced sounds - he fronted the Irish dub and dancehall collective, Intinn, which supported The Wailers, The Skatalites, and UB40, and his debut solo album, 2015’s This Applies, featured a performance with reggae legend Max Romeo - but the Galwegians’s musical net is wider than that.

Cian describes These Moments as having “a soulful cinematic feel”. Indeed, opening track ‘Like Water’ moves from lush filtered soundscapes into heavy hitting beats and percussive vocals.

.

The EP explores different aspects of transitional moments in life, whether it is environmental (“Daylight we see colour spread like spilt ink,” Cian declares on ‘Like Water’ ), or broken friendships ('Losing My Way', 'Games We Play' ).

The final track, ‘As Times Change’, is a homage to the transition from one generation to next: “The next generation sits and waits to take hold of the reins...wind skims the sea like rock, hushed words the people talk, waves of a new age shock for every generation, it's the same.”

These Moments was produced by Gas Frost and features artwork by Brian Bourke. It will be available exclusively as a digital release on the Emerald Isle Records Bandcamp page from February 3, followed later this year by a limited edition vinyl pressing.
