Fifty years of excellence at Devon Park Dental

Devon Park Dental situated in the prime location of Lower Salthill proudly celebrates 50 years in business this month. It was founded in 1972 by Dr Michael Dunleavy, and the excellence continued when, in 2005 on Dr Dunleavy’s retirement, Dr Jason McEvaddy took over the practice.

During the past 50 year,s Devon Park Dental has remained the centre of the community and beyond, providing advanced dentistry and has further modernised its techniques with a multidisciplinary dental team to provide advanced dental care in a warm and welcoming environment. Ideally positioned at Lower Salthill with ample parking and located on main city bus routes, it now proudly serves three generations of families and extended family members.

The first person to cross the threshold that morning in 1972 was Michael’s late morther, Mrs Agnes Dunlavy, clutching the Child of Prague in her arms, as it was a bold and brave step for Michael to take over a practice outside the city centre Pale of Eglinton Street and Eyre Square.

But Michael’s instinctive commercial nature convinced him that he was laying the foundation for a successful business in a location that would become more stragetic and convenient as time went on.

From starting his practice in 1972 with one nurse in a small newly-built surgery behind a pre-fab bungalow, Michael oversaw the significant development of the dental practice, growing staff numbers and technologies.

During the 50 years it has continued with further staff training, system and equipment upgrades and extended its opening hours to include early morning, late evening, and weekend appointments, along with an out of hours emergency clinic.

Drs Alison Browne, Ali Al-Zein and Tom Cassidy will now join Drs Jason McEvaddy and Leah Smyth at Devon Park Dental. The team very much looks forward to serving the community for the next 50 years and beyond.

The team at JME Dental would like to thank the people of Galway City, and particularly West Galway for their support and business over the past 50 years.

“We’re dealing with people today who have grown up coming into JME Dental and now we are looking after their children. It makes our job so satisfying,” they said.

“The developments in technology too have transformed the way we work which is very patient focused and the care and comfort of our patients is our highest priority.

“We’ve been so lucky down throughout the years to have such a loyal and dedicated team of professionals who have taken care of our customers from when they make the first call to when they finish their treatment, and then onto the continued upkeep of their teeth..

“Obviously the last few years have been really tough where we have had to reduce our team due to Covid and only deal with emergencies, but now we can finally see a chink of light at the end of the tunnel. This is mainly due to the amazing uptake and response to the vaccine roll out. Our ample parking facility enabled people to stay in their own cars while we prepared for each client.

“We are now thankfully looking forward to this coming year where we will be back hiring the best in the business again and taking our business forward for the next 50 years,” the team said.
