Footpaths in east Galway set for improvement works

€7,875,000 in funding for Active Travel Projects in County Galway

Improvements to footpaths across Galway East are set to be carried out following the allocation of €7,875,000 in Active Travel Projects funding to the Galway County Council.

Footpath improvements will be carried out in Loughrea, Gort, Athenry, Tuam, Craughwell, Abbey, Kiltormer, Eyrecourt, Monivea, Headford, and Caherlistrane, while new footpaths will be installed in Ardrahan, Ballindereen, Caltra, Glenamaddy, and Garrafrauns.

Funding has also been allocated to provide pedestrian crossings, safe school routes, speeding interventions, and light segregation cycle schemes throughout the county.

Independent Galway East TD Sean Canney has welcomed the allocation. “These works,” he said, “will be timely in this unique moment in time to create a more attractive and safer local environment.”
