A total of €90,000 in funding has been approved for the Galway County Council to begin works opening and cleaning the open drain network at Clonfert, near Ballinasloe.
The funding is allocated from the Minor Works Scheme for flood relief in local areas. The council will carry out the works in the coming months, and when complete, it is expected to protect the area from flooding.
The allocation has been welcomed by the Independent Galway East TD, Sean Canney. “I commend the council on accessing funding for this project,” he said, “and many similar projects throughout the county.”
