Council unable to confirm if refurbishment work on tennis courts will be done ahead of summer

Cllr Alan Cheevers describes situation as 'absolutely farcical'

The Galway City Council is unable to confirm whether refurbishment work on some tennis courts will be completed ahead of the summer.

Cllr Mike Cubbard has raised the issue on a number of occasions and asked if the upgrades would be delivered soon at Monday's meeting of the Galway City Council. Cllr Alan Cheevers added it was 'absolutely farcical where we had a contractor organised for last summer'.

Tender documents

Covid cases in the staff of the contracting team was another reason given why this project has been delayed further.

Carmel Kilcoyne, senior planner with the Galway City Council, said the council got procurement advice and is now looking at splitting the contracts for the different surfaces involved. "It is going to take a bit of time to split the tender documents," she added. "We are working on it very actively."
