Work placement

More than 80% of our courses offer work placement opportunities. These provide students with the chance to acquire effective work habits and skills, allowing you to move with confidence and self-direction into the world of work.

NUI Galway is pioneering two new initiatives to support our students to develop key skills for life and the world of work - Designing Futures and IdeasLab. Designing Futures has been developed to enhance graduate employability by offering practical and creative teaching, learning and skills development alongside traditional degree studies.

Alongside it, the IdeasLab offers a place to cultivate curiosity, creativity and activate those all-important entrepreneurship skills. Its programmes are open to all NUI Galway students and include mentorship, internships and Enterprise Challenge programmes.

Alternative admission pathways

While the traditional route to study at NUI Galway is through the Leaving Certificate, there are many other pathways including PLC/FET/FETAC/QQI. The majority of our undergraduate degree have places set aside for students coming from these pathways so remember the Leaving Certificate exam results can be just one step in the journey.

Scholarships

The University awards a number of academic and sports scholarships each year. Applications for both sports scholarships and the creative arts are now open now at www.nuigalway.ie/undergraduate-scholarships We also offer the excellence scholarship, which is based on academic achievement in the Leaving Certificate examination.
