Kae Tempest - live at the Róisín Dubh

Award winning author, poet, and recording artist to play Galway in April 2022

KAE TEMPEST, the award winning poet, spoken word artist, and Sunday Times bestselling author releases a new album in April, the same month they play the Róisín Dubh.

Kae Tempest plays the Dominick Street venue on Saturday April 30 at 8pm. Their new album, The Line Is A Curve, comes out on April 8, and features the recent single, ‘More Pressure’ with Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract.

The artist has described the album as being about “letting go of shame, anxiety, isolation, and falling instead into surrender. Embracing the cyclical nature of time, growth, love.”

A highly respected voice in contemporary writing, Tempest won the 2013 Ted Hughes Award, was nominated for a Costa Book Award and a BRIT Award, and has twice been shortlisted for both the Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello Award. Their fourth studio album, 2019’s The Book of Traps and Lessons, was produced by Rick Rubin, who has also worked with Slayer, Johnny Cash, AC/DC, and Public Enemy.

Jamaican author Marlon James, who won the Book Prize in 2016 for his magnificent novel, A Brief History Of Seven Killings, has described Tempest as “a battle rapper. Ready and armed for a fight…No question that Tempest could drop rhymes on a beat, and their voice was always formidable…Tempest can soar and stay grounded at the same time."

Formerly Kate Tempest, in August 2020 they came out as non-binary and changed their name to Kae.

“I’ve been struggling to accept myself as I am for a long time,” they said on Instagram. “I have tried to be what I thought others wanted me to be so as not to risk rejection. This hiding from myself has led to all kinds of difficulties in my life. And this is a first step towards knowing and respecting myself better.”

This is a ‘Strange Brew presents…’ show. Tickets are available via www.roisindubh.net
