The Mayor of Galway has been asked to write to the chair and chief executive of Galway 2020 and ask them to come before councilors to answer “unanswered questions”.
Fianna Fáil Galway City East councillor, Alan Cheevers [pictured below], has asked Mayor Colette Connolly to write to Galway 2020, saying that, “details of the real cost” of the project need to be made public.

Cllr Cheevers said he wants explanations on a number of issues, including how much was paid out to programme directors whose contracts were severed or left, and the cost of canceling the opening ceremony at Southpark.
“A vast amount of taxpayers money was invested in this project, and we need more transparency,” he said. “We need a detailed breakdown. We need answers to these unanswered questions.”
