Contractor appointed to construct new footbridge in Athenry

Coffey Construction is designing footbridge to provide pedestrian access to Clarin College

A contractor has been appointed to construct a new footbridge to provide safer pedestrian access to Clarin College, Athenry.

The footbridge was planned as part of the planning application for Clarin College, but the Department of Education did not include the works in the original contract. However, Coffey Construction is currently designing the steel structure which will be fabricated off site. It is expected to be completed by the end of April 2022.

The news has been welcomed by Independent Galway East TD, Seán Canney, wh, along with Independent county councillor, Gabe Cronnelly, has been working to secure the footbridge for the school.

“This project will provide direct safe pedestrian access for pupils,” he said. “It is important no further delays are encountered and that this project is delivered as quickly as possible”.
