16 new bins installed in city centre and Salthill

Additional bins “are very welcome” says FG councilor, Eddie Hoare

Sixteen new 1,100 litre litter bins have been installed at the Spanish Arch, Wolfe Tone Bridge, and along Salthill Promenade.

The bins were installed by the Galway City Council to replace the old wooden bins. This follows the installation of an additional 21 solar compactor bins throughout 2021.

The bin housings have been specifically designed for Galway with a focus on using recycled material, while maintaining the necessary robustness for operating in a coastal area. The front and side openings cater for both pizza boxes and general litter.

The new bins have been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway City Central councillor, Eddie Hoare [pictured above].

“For too long we’ve seen bins overflowing during busy periods. Galway City Council has continued to increase the litter management budget to meet the needs of our city. I’d like to commend the Environment Department for progressing this.”
