A total of 13 new staff have been appointed to the Galway County Council’s housing department - 10 additional technical staff and three administrative staff.
The appointments have been welcomed by the Independent Galway East TD, Sean Canney, who said extra staff are also required in the council’s roads, planning, and environment departments.
The Advisory Group on the future of the Local Authorities had also cited the deficit in human resources in the Galway County Council.

Dep Canney [pictured above] had raised the issue with the Minister for the Environment, Dara O’Brien. During those discussions, the Minister said the proposed amalgamation of Galway county and city councils would not now proceed.
“I again reiterated the need for the baseline funding issue to be resolved,” said Dep Canney, “and the Minister undertook to have this resolved in early 2022.”
