MOZART’S FINAL three symphonies will be performed in Galway when Jörg Widmann and the Irish Chamber Orchestra play St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church.

Widmann and the orchestra will perform Mozart’s symphony No 39 in Eb, K 543; the melancholic symphony No 40 in Gm K 550; and the symphony No 41 in C, K 551, also known as ‘The Jupiter Symphony’, and one of the greatest works ever composed for the form.

Director and clarinettist of the ICO, Widmann had amassed a considerable reputation, having worked with Christoph von Dohnányi and Kent Nagano, and for establishing a dynamic synergy with the orchestra.

“It has always been my dream to perform these last three symphonies by Mozart with the Irish Chamber Orchestra,” said Widmann. “Playing Mozart has always been so rewarding – his music never tires and every time you hear something new. There is something sacred in these symphonies as he surpasses his own skills in these final works.”

.

‘The Jupiter Symphony’ will undoubtedly be the highlight of the concert. It reflects the invincible spirit that drove Mozart to succeed against all odds, and is also full of cheer, exuberance, and charm.
